Assistant Community Director

(Exempt Salaried Position)

Hudson Community Living Company (HCLC) is a unique, new, community-accessible neighborhood designed for individuals with developmental disabilities to help support their quality of life and increase independence. This is an exciting ground floor opportunity!

Overview

The Assistant Community Director (ACD) plays a crucial role in supporting the overall management and coordination of the community for adults with developmental disabilities. This position involves overseeing resident activities, managing volunteers, handling grant applications, assisting with unexpected schedule changes, and ensuring the smooth operation of meal services. The ACD will work closely with the Community Director and other staff to ensure the community operates in alignment with state regulations and best practices. The ACD reports to the Community Director and collaborates with Resident Advisors, external certified caregivers, and other team members to create a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment for residents. Working hours are typically from 2 PM to 10:30 PM daily, with some flexibility required.

Education, Experience and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, psychology, healthcare administration, education).
  • Previous experience working in a similar setting with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle unexpected situations with composure and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of grant application processes and fundraising strategies.
  • Commitment to the principles of person-centered care and community inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Resident Activities:
      • Plan, organize, and implement a variety of resident activities that promote social engagement, skill development, and community integration.
      • Collaborate with Resident Advisors to create a diverse schedule of recreational, educational, and vocational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
      • Ensure that activities align with the principles of person-centered care.
  2. Volunteer Management:
      • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support community programs and activities.
      • Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, ensuring they are well-equipped to assist in various capacities within the community.
      • Coordinate volunteer schedules and recognize their contributions to the community.
  3. Grant Application and Management:
      • Identify relevant grant opportunities and prepare compelling grant proposals to secure funding for community programs and services.
      • Collaborate with the Director and relevant stakeholders to develop budgets and reports required for grant applications and compliance.
      • Monitor and evaluate the impact of grant-funded initiatives.
  4. Assistance with Unexpected Schedule Changes:
      • Respond promptly and effectively to unexpected changes in residents’ schedules or needs.
      • Collaborate with Resident Advisors and external caregivers to address emergent situations and ensure the well-being and safety of residents.
      • Communicate changes to all relevant parties, including residents, guardians, and staff.
  5. Meal Service Oversight:
      • Work closely with the Chef to ensure the timely and efficient provision of meals, taking into consideration residents’ dietary needs and preferences.
      • Address any concerns related to meal service, coordinating with the kitchen staff and addressing feedback from residents and their guardians.
  6. Communication and Collaboration:
      • Maintain open and effective communication with the Director, Resident Advisors, external caregivers, residents, and their guardians.
      • Collaborate with the Director in implementing policies, procedures, and initiatives that enhance the overall functioning of the community.
      • Engage with local organizations and community partners to enhance the visibility and impact of HCLC programs.
      • Develop and maintain community partnerships that support resident activities and community integration efforts.

Compensation & Benefits Package

  • Full Time Exempt Salary compensation (comparable to industry standards)
  • Healthcare: Comprehensive benefits package included
  • Retirement Plan: Simple IRA with an employer match of up to 3%
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): 23 days annually, pro-rated from the start date (includes holidays, vacation, and sick days)

Employment Contract Requirements

  • ACD candidate must pass a BCI and/or FBI background screening (expenses paid by HCLC).
  • ACD must become a HPC (Homemaker Personal Care) certified provider beginning certification within 2 months of start date (expenses paid by HCLC).
  • ACD must possess a valid Driver’s license, vehicle liability insurance, and have a good driving record.
