Develop safe, supportive, independent living communities for Adults with Developmental Disabilities so that they may live joyfully with lifelong friends.
Status:
Nationwide, there is a shortage of appropriate, accessible, safe and supportive living communities for adults with DD. For decades, most of our nation’s schools have welcomed children with DD into their local districts rather than having to attend separate “special” schools. Now, these children have reached adulthood and face a dire lack of appropriate housing despite achieving high school graduation, a first step towards independence.
In Ohio alone:
· 65% of individuals with intellectual disabilities live with aging parents or siblings
· There are 9025 unfilled caregiver positions, the #1 job opening in the state
· HCL has more than 82 families seeking a spot for their adult child, with only 32 spaces currently available
We are pleased to introduce Hudson Community Living. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit neighborhood designed to empower its residents and where they can live joyfully near family while cultivating lifelong relationships.
An innovative, forward-thinking “community within a community”, our ultimate mission is to intentionally share our experience and expertise with other interested parties and communities nationwide, potentially positively impacting thousands of individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
At Hudson Community Living, a group of dedicated parents and business leaders have set out to create a safe, inclusive, and community-accessible neighborhood that provides a unique lifestyle for their Adult Children with developmental disabilities* allowing them to work, socialize and age in place in Hudson. The neighborhood will provide a Supportive Living environment and will be located near city amenities including the Hudson library, city parks, police and EMS, restaurants and shopping.
Hudson Community Living is intentionally designed to enable adults with Developmental Disabilities to live fully, joyfully and independently supported by family and friends in a welcoming community. It is set up to meet all the needs of adults with Developmental Disabilities, enabling them to work, socialize and successfully age in place near their families.
Hudson Community Living Company is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
*Developmental disabilities generally include down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and autism spectrum disorder which are a group of conditions which lead to impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions begin during the developmental period, may impact day-to-day functioning, and last throughout a person's lifetime.
Our on-site director is the primary communicator with each resident’s service provider, driver, and food service provider. Our role is to facilitate independent living with oversight and communications to families and guardians.
We believe that service providers should be the choice of our residents and their guardians. Once service providers are selected and contracted, we can help monitor daily arrivals of caregivers and alert guardians of any miscues.
